This place is pretty popular with the tour bus groups. While I was there, there were no less than 5 large buses that came through. That being said, it was quite busy. You pay upon entry and I was asked what kind of drink I would like at the cashier. She mentioned it as if it were included in the meal but it is not, it is an additional $2.00. Because of this I decided to not get a soda.
There are four double sided buffet tables as well as a grill section along with a long L-shaped dessert area. The first thing you encounter is the grilling section where they cook the steaks. Here you will also find grilled onions, sauteed mushrooms, hot dogs, chicken, french fries, horseradish, BBQ sauce, Bourbon sauce, hot relish and pickle relish. The hot dogs and chicken are not done on the grill.
The first buffet table has three soups (chicken noodle, vegetable soup & New England clam chowder), fried shrimp, fried chicken, liver & onions, shrimp alfredo, mashed potatoes, turkey gravy, beef gravy and cornbread stuffing. The second buffet table has the taco bar with tortilla chips, hard corn tortilla shells, soft flour tortillas, lettuce, tomatoes, sour cream, taco beef, chopped onions, nacho sauce, shredded cheddar cheese and salsa. There is also spaghetti, pasta sauce with meatballs, macaroni & cheese, chili and baked fish.
The next buffet station has cheese pizza, pepperoni pizza, buffalo wings, corn, green beans, rice pilaf, BBQ pork ribs, a baked potato bar, stewed tomatoes, corn bread and brussel sprouts. The last table has all of your salads items, dressing & toppings, cole slaw, macaroni salad, potato salad, cottage cheese, carrot & raisin salad, pickled beets, broccoli & cauliflower salad, tuna salad and fresh fruit salad (some of these are also located near the desserts).
Lastly is the long dessert area, there are various Jell-O cups, apple pie, sweet potato pie, strawberry swirl pie, cheesecake, cherry cheesecake, mudslide pudding, rice krispie treats, sugar-free cookies, oatmeal cookies, chocolate chip cookies, sugar cookies, brownies, vanilla pudding, chocolate pudding, sugar-free chocolate pudding, butterscotch pudding, tapioca pudding, rum sauce, bread pudding, sugar-free apple cobbler, peach cobbler, cherry cobbler, chocolate cake, strawberry shortcake and another bread pudding with run sauce. There is a soft serve ice cream station with vanilla, chocolate and twist. They have chocolate syrup, caramel syrup, chocolate sprinkles, chocolate pieces, chocolate candies and chopped nuts for toppings.
The food here was okay. There was nothing that was truly exceptional. The good items were the New England clam chowder, macaroni & cheese, the BBQ pork ribs, the mashed potatoes, the fried chicken, shrimp alfredo, fried shrimp and the Bourbon sauce was really good. There were a few items that were pretty bad. The pizza was not much like pizza at all, the dough was really dense and there really wasn’t much of a crust. The steaks were either over or undercooked even though they grill them to order, I could not get one cooked nicely medium. Everything else was pretty much what you’d expect and was acceptable.
The desserts were hit and miss. The cookies were horrible, they were extremely hard with not much flavor. The strawberry shortcake and the brownies were dry. The rice krispie treat seemed not to have marshmallow in it (not sure how that works). The bread pudding was almost burnt. There were some exceptional items though, the chocolate cake was delicious. There was another bread pudding with rum sauce that was fantastic. The cheesecakes (which are served in cups) were very good and there was a mudslide cup that was a frozen pudding with additional puddings that was great.
The place was pretty clean and they did a good job of making sure everything was stocked. The items at the buffet tables were refilled quickly even though the place was really busy. The servers were very good with refilling drinks and clearing plates. The restrooms were clean and tidy. All in all it was just an okay buffet. The had some things that were good and some that were bad. There are a lot of things on their website that were not available when I was there.
