Christmas In Connecticut Dinner Menu

If you have not seen Christmas in Connecticut it is a wonderful movie. I’ve been meaning to watch it and finally got around to it this year. One of the main characters is Elizabeth Lane, a food writer for “Smart Magazine”. Here is her menu for the 1945 Christmas Dinner:

Fresh Fruit Cup
Hot Rolls
Lettuce with Russian Dressing

Cranberry-Orange Relish
Buttered Green Beans
Candied Sweet Potatoes
Celery Souffle

Roast Goose, Bernoise, with Walnut Dressing
Giblet Gravy

Mince Pie
Pumpkin Pie
Ice Cream
Old Fashioned Plum Pudding
Fresh Fruit
Mixed Nuts

What are you serving to your loved ones this evening?

Christmas Dinner

  1. my grandfather made an amazing beef tenderloin for Christmas Eve dinner. stuffed shrimp, grilled asparagus and loaded baked potatoes to go with it.

  2. It’s amazing how you got that still from “American Housekeeping” magazine. i didn’t think it was onscreen that long. I believe it’s seen early in the movie when Nurse Mary Lee reads aloud to Jeffy Boy? it’s so fun to read about and possibly re create menus from movies and books. I just got the Peter Wimsey cookbook which details specific entrees and wine pairings from this 1920’s detective series.
